HONOLULU (KHON2) — Police are currently investigating another officer-involved shooting that left one man dead.
The incident happened early Tuesday morning between around 1:00 a.m. at the Campbell Industrial area.
EMS says the 27-year-old man had multiple gun shot wounds to the upper chest and one gunshot wound to the upper abdomen.
According to HPD Chief Susan Ballard, who included body cam footage from the officer during a presser on Tuesday afternoon, an officer observed the man driving down the opposite side of the road on a moped. The officer then followed him, and the man left his moped and fled on foot. The officer followed him on foot. The man circled around back to the moped and tried to start it while brandishing a knife to the officer. The officer gave repeated commands for the man to drop the knife, and the man did not comply. The officer used a taser gun on the man, who pulled the tasers out and tried to escape on the moped. While trying to stop the man from fleeing, the officer shot the man. The man died at a nearby hospital.
