TRAGIC: Unable to Afford Healthcare, eLDERLY Man Shoots Wife to Death before Killing Himself

Brian Jones allegedly shot his wife Patricia Whitney-Jones once before turning the semi-automatic handgun on himself three times, including once in the head

A Washington man ended the lives of both himself and his wife this week after expressing his concerns in a note about being unable to pay the medical expenses for her ongoing health conditions.

Following the tragedy in Ferndale on Wednesday morning, state officials are investigating the incident, which was determined to be a murder-suicide, according to a statement from Sheriff Bill Elfo with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple has also been identified by the Whatcom County Medical Examiner as Brian S. Jones, 77, and his wife, Patricia Whitney-Jones, 76, PEOPLE confirms.

WATCH: Plane lands on busy street, stops at red lights, shocks drivers in Washington

 

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. – When Trooper Clint Thompson spotted a small airplane heading for Pacific Avenue on Wednesday morning, he turned on his flashing lights and his dashboard camera as the plane flew over him.

Turning to block traffic, Thompson followed in the northbound lanes as the pilot struggled, without power to bring the aircraft down safely and even managing to stop at the red light at 138th street.

BREAKING: Police respond to shooting in Burien, Washington

BURIEN, Wash. — Authorities are responding to a shooting Monday in Burien. It was reported in the 15800 block of 1st Avenue. The King County Sheriff’s Office says initial reports indicated that shots were fired from a vehicle. Images from a witness in the area show Burien Police surrounding a car near the McDonald’s restaurant in the area.
