ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WLS) — A 2-year-old girl died after two temporary steel walls fell on her inside the Akira store at Orland Square Mall in Orland Park Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy said a grandmother and aunt of five children were in the store on the lower level. The children were playing when somehow two temporary walls fell and struck the girl.
The temporary walls were eight feet high, three feet wide and weighed between 75-100 pounds each, McCarthy said.
Orland Park police said officers and paramedics responded to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. Paramedics performed medical treatment at the scene, then transported the girl to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she died from her injuries.
The girl has been identified to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Alexandra Martinez.
The most American of all the big cities in the US, Chicago stands out not just for its ease of use (O’Hare airport is the world’s busiest) or its eminently friendly locals (they call it “Midwest Nice”), but also for its stunning architecture. Walk among its 77 distinct neighbourhoods and you’ll find International Style skyscrapers, Frank Lloyd Wright-designed single-family homes, and everything in between.
Food is the big draw in this city of nearly three million souls, but if you’re looking for a killer place to spend the night, you can rest and digest for as little as $109 a night in a former factory filled with tattooed hipsters or drop serious coin in a Magnificent Mile tower.
Most first-timers to the Windy City (named for the windy political climate of the 1930s, not the extreme gusts peeling off Lake Michigan) choose a room with a view of the water, but heading west affords more neighbourhood escapes where actual Chicagoans hang out. So pick your poison, and bring comfortable walking shoes. Continue at Source: 10 of the best hotels in Chicago

There are people who claim you shouldn’t eat right before bed. With all due respect, these people are wrong. As far as after-hours decisions go, doubling down on fat and carbs before heading home is, quite frankly, one of the tamest decisions you could make. And bonus: if you’ve been drinking, they might even help you feel better the next morning. Given that, your midnight snack is practically a matter of national health and safety. And though Chicago isn’t open all hours the way New York or LA is, you can still find many late-night, gut-filling options in The City of Big Shoulders.
