The Breathtaking House Where Exiled Victor Hugo Wrote ‘Les Miserables’ Is Finally Open to the Public Again

Earlier this week, the house where French novelist Victor Hugo completed “Les Miserables” opened to the public after a multimillion-dollar renovation. In 1856, Hugo was exiled from France for criticizing Napoleon’s empire. He moved to the island of Guernsey, where he spent 15 years, completing some of his most famous works and decorating a house in his own unique style.
