ARASOTA, Fla. — A pilot was temporarily blinded while trying to land at a Florida airport after a man pointed a laser directly in his eyes, local police said.
Manatee County Sheriff’s deputies responded just after 7:40 p.m. Wednesday to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport for a report of a laser being pointed at planes making their approach to land.
While police were trying to locate the suspect, he also used the laser on them, officials said. The suspect was located on a forklift just east of the airport.
Police surrounded the individual, later identified as Charlie James Chapman Jr., 41, and he grabbed a hammer and made striking motions toward deputies. A taser was deployed, and police found a laser pointer in Chapman’s pocket.
Lyft and other ride shares have been asked for a “quiet mode,” during which the driver won’t converse with the passenger. It’s unlikely many would select that option when Will Smith is their driver.
The actor, rapper and Hollywood giant got behind the wheel to promote his new movie, “Bad Boys for Life.” Unsuspecting Lyft customers would call a car as usual, only to be greeted by the high-energy actor.

TAMPA, Fla (WFLA) – A Tampa woman appeared before a judge Monday after she was arrested for allegedly making a bomb inside of a Walmart.
Emily Stallard, 37, reportedly crafted the homemade bomb in front of a child at the Walmart on East Fletcher Avenue.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said a security guard noticed the Stallard wandering aimlessly through the aisles for more than an hour, opening odd items such as nails, a Mason jar and denatured alcohol. He told deputies her behavior was “suspicious.”
The security guard began watching her closely and alerted an off-duty FWC officer who was in the store. The two men were able to stop Stallard right before she lit a wick and detained her until deputies arrived, according to the arrest report.
Stallard was arrested and charged with Attempted Arson of a Structure, Fire Bombing, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, Child Abuse and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
“This woman had all the supplies she needed to cause mass destruction at her disposal. Had it not been for an alert off-duty law enforcement officer and a watchful security staff at Walmart, she may have followed through with her plans to cause an explosion inside the store,”
