MCKINNEY, Texas – A child’s Christmas gift is part of what set his family’s front yard on fire in McKinney.
The boy’s parents thought their son was going to use a magnifying glass for reading, but instead, he wanted to try and spark things on fire.
The 12-year-old said he was trying to use his magnifying glass to light newspaper on fire.
When it actually happened, the newspaper fire spread to the grass, sending the front yard into flames and smoke within minutes.

Days after United States President Donald Trump praised Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which probably has nothing to do with the fact he has a cameo in the holiday film, a Canadian broadcaster cut his appearance from the film altogether.
According to people sounding off on social media, they have noticed that Trump’s cameo has been edited out of the version of the film airing on CBC.
ComicBook.com reached out to the CBC for comment on why Trump was cut from their Home Alone 2 broadcast, and the CBC replied “As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format.”
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Witnesses say a robber was doing everything he could to get caught after holding up a downtown Springs bank in the middle of lunchtime.
“He robbed the bank, came out, threw the money all over the place,'” said Dion Pascale, who told 11 News he watched the whole thing unfold.
He started throwing money out of the bag and then said, ‘Merry Christmas!'”
Pascale said the suspect sauntered down to the Starbucks next door and “sat down and waited for the cops. It was almost like he wanted it to happen [an arrest].”
STOCKTON (CBS13) – The Grinch’s heart grew several sizes a little earlier than Christmas morning this year, apparently.
As captured on video, a man and a person dressed up as the Grinch started throwing cash up in the air at the Weberstown Mall on Monday.
A worker at a nearby store said people were just waiting to take their picture with Santa Claus when the Grinch showed up and started making it rain.
