More than 50,000 people forced to leave home in Italy after WW2 bomb found in Brindisi – WATCH

 

British bomb believed to have been dropped on southern Italian city in 1941 More than 50,000 people had to evacuate their homes in Brindisi in the south of Italy on Sunday, as experts removed a second world war British bomb.

The British bomb, uncovered by construction workers on 2 November during refurbishment works at a cinema, is believed to have been dropped on the port city in 1941.

The Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera described the operation as “the biggest peacetime evacuation in the country” as more than 54,000 inhabitants were forced to leave their homes for several hours on Sunday morning, within a radius of 1,617 metres from where the bomb was found.

TOKYO: The Imperial Japanese Army asked the government to provide one “comfort woman” for every 70 soldiers, Japan’s Kyodo news agency said, citing wartime government documents it had reviewed, shedding a fresh light on Tokyo’s involvement in the practice.

“Comfort women” is a euphemism for the girls and women – many of them Korean – forced into prostitution at Japanese military brothels. The issue has plagued Japan’s ties with South Korea for decades.

The reports say federal investigators are looking at terrorism as a motive.

BREAKING: Bomb threat situation at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida, evacuation is underway

A bomb threat was reported at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida on Friday and the area was evacuated as authorities were investigating, the base said in a Tweet.

The threat came hours after a shooting killed four people and injured eight at the Naval Air Station Pensacola. A member of the Saudi Air Force visiting the United States for military training was the suspected shooter.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The search for a missing National Guard helicopter has led crews to wreckage near Kimball, Minnesota.

The National Guard Public Affairs Office confirmed that it lost contact with a helicopter at 2:05 p.m. while it was conducting a maintenance test flight that originated from St. Cloud.

A search effort including crews from St. Paul Fire and Rescue, and the Minnesota State Patrol, has located wreckage near Kimball, Minnesota.

The missing UH-60 Black Hawk had three members aboard and took off from the St. Cloud airport.

Denmark Now Treats Trump-Interest Greenland as Top National Security Risk Above Terrorist Threat 

Denmark has for the first time put mineral-rich Greenland top of its national security agenda, ahead of terrorism and cybercrime.

The Defence Intelligence Service (FE) linked its change in priorities to US interest in Greenland, expressed in President Donald Trump’s desire to buy the vast Arctic territory.

Greenland is part of Denmark, but has significant autonomy, including freedom to sign major business deals.
